•  How is the polymer headwall mould filled?

  The headwall mould is filled with concrete via openings in the back and wing walls.Our favoured method uses a concrete skip.When full,caps are placed over the filling holes.(see method statement)

•  What is the most suitable concrete mix for filling?
  The recommended concrete mix is a RC25/30 with a 75mm slump.
•  What bank gradients are polymer headwalls suitable for?
  Using this system headwalls can be installed into 1:1,1:2 and 1:3 banks.
•  What is the installation time?
  Using this system a headwall can be completely installed in 2-3 hours.
•  Can concrete pipes be connected to the headwall?

  We can provide couplers to suit any type of standard pipe.

•  Is the mould removed?
  No - the plastic mould remains in situ after it has been filled with concrete.
•  How is the mould held in position?
  The mould is held in position by the rear toe and a series of ribs which key into the blinding concrete base.
•  Is reinforcing steel required?

  The headwall mould is capable of withstanding very high loads without any reinforcing.

  In extreme situations, reinforcing steel can be introduced to the wing walls.

•  What plastic is used to manufacture the headwalls and silt traps
  The headwalls and silt traps are made of durable high density polyethylene (HDPE) which is UV stabilised and resistant to chemicals, abrasion and graffiti. This plastic shell is filled with compacted concrete.
•  Do the headwalls come in different colours?

  A full range of colours and effects are available on request.

  Our standard colours are GREY and GRANITE stone effect.

  It is possible to specify the colour of the plastic to either blend into its surroundings, or conversely to stand out in situations where colour coding would be advantageous eg. Chemical works to denote specific outfalls.
